A go-to pose anytime anywhere

VIPARITA KARANI aka “legs-up-the-wall-pose”.

Get into the pose: Find a wall and bring your sit bones close to the wall, extend the legs and RELAX.
*legs do not have to be completely straight!

It’s the most simple-yet most beneficial asana (pose) I know to:

1. Quiet the mindIMG_20150710_170303
2. Release fatigue and cramps in the legs
*When was the last time you did a cartwheel? Once in a while, let our energy go bottom-up instead of the usual top-bottom.
3. Gently stretches hamstrings, back and lower back
4. Eases digestion, stomach cramps
5. Helps Insomnia
+Shift in perception, new ideas, creativity!!

These are just a few of the benefits. I do this when my mind or body feels tension, and after 5 minutes I feel completely rejuvenated yet relaxed.

Happy new start of the year! It’s really an amazing marker to start something new, or to just reset the mind. Though, it’s great to keep in mind that this is the feeling we should have at the start of each and every day.
START EACH DAY LIKE ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY. 

It’s been over 10 years that I’ve started yoga, and dove into the studies of health and well-being.
Those years have been a winding road, (and needless to say, I’m still still learning!). I experienced all too well how you can sound healthy-but actually not be, or despite all the “knowledge”, forgetting to listen to my heart.

There has been a huge realization this year. That pretty much changed everything. I finally was able to free myself from the attachments I had, and really with my body, mind & soul felt what it is to be truly happy and healthy.
SO MUCH OF IT IS JUST IN THE MIND. Let go, and without any rush, just FOCUS on the everyday, and do the best that YOU can do, not anyone else. Though it is a challenge in this city and day & age, we really can free ourselves from a lot of the discomforts, and stress we hold. I look forward from now and the years to come, to share my experiences and knowledge with everyone:)

This year is gonna be another crazy new amazing one!
Looking forward to setting up more events from April, and big changes in Autumn.

新年、始まりました!もちろん、心と気分を入れ替えるのに最適な時期とも言えますが、毎日このような気持ちで取り組むのはどうでしょう?昨日ではなく、明日ではなく、今日が一番大切な日だと心がけて精一杯生きる
それだけでいろいろ考え方が変わるかもしれません!

ヨガと出会い、健康法に興味持って10年ほど、長ーいみちのりで(もちろん今もまだまだ勉強中です)つらいことに難しい方法でいろいろ学びました。頭と口ばかりで実は自分は健康でなかったり。こころの声や身体の叫びを聞いていなかったり。

ただ、今年になって何かが変わった!自分の執着してたものから解放されて、本当の自分の健康体に出会えた。
自分を自由にさせたあげて、一瞬一瞬を大事に。そして人にではなく、自分なりの精一杯を発揮する。現代ではなかなかな難しいですが、ストレスや身体の不調をなくすことは可能です!

今後もみんなと経験や知識をシェアしていきたいと思います。今年もとんでもないおもしろい年になりそうです!
4月からはイベントをいろいろ予定しております。そして大きな変化が秋にも到来!

Going into the holiday season. 秋冬に入って。

そろそろ寒くなってきて、関節がポキポキという音がしたり、肌荒れや乾燥が出てきました。これは全てアーユルヴェーダでいうヴァータというの要素の表れ。冷えはもちろん、一番気をつけたいのは乾燥!!出来るだけ暖かい飲み物調理されたごはんをとるようにして、また冬は一番消化力が強い時期なので、(もちろん適量に!)ボリューミーな食事を家族、友達と楽しむ季節を満喫しましょう!

It’s getting quite cold in Tokyo, and I for sure have been noticing dryness in my joints (cracks and sounds as I do my arm circles) and in my skin (spots of red and peeling at times). In Ayurveda, the dry, cold windy weather characterizes VATA, which is the WIND element. Therefore it lacks warmth, but most of all (especially in Japan) MOISTURE, so make sure you take lots of WARM DRINKS, SLIGHTLY RICH, COOKED FOODS. Good to note that it is the season when HEAVIER FOODS DIGEST BETTER than other seasons, so enjoy (in moderation) the HEARTY foods of the holidays with Family & Friends!

Teaching 教えること。

When I started yoga 12 years ago, I never imagined teaching it.
Honestly when I was getting my license, it was to deepen my knowledge for yoga, and didn’t start teaching until a few years after. Taking a class, is completely different from teaching one.

Now that I have started teaching about a year ago, I cannot feel more blessed to be able to share the practice.
I thank friends and students who have been coming to my classes, and truly enjoy seeing bodies, minds and faces changing!
Positively, of course!

I mostly specialize in private or semi-private lessons. Big classes are great too, but it cannot be emphasized enough that all our bodies are different, and there is no same one. In addition to that, how the body feels each day is different too.
One might feel energized, ready to flow through challenging poses, while the other is recovering from a cold and needs a few more of those relaxing poses.

Of course I cannot be inside someone’s body to understand 100% how it feels, but my experiences, injuries, emotional ups and downs, body changes—though sometimes tough, have given me an opportunity to understand more about one’s condition, and accommodate to that in order to give a class that they can benefit from.

And through classes, I learn, more. Looking forward to years more of sharing and living each moment of those “nows” called life:)

12年前、ヨガを始めたときはまさか自分が教えるとは思ってもなかった。資格をとったのもヨガについてもっと知りたいな、と思ったから、で実際教え始めたのはその数年後。教わると教えるって、本当にちがう。

一年前に教えることができて本当に感謝。来てくれる友達や生徒さん、本当に有難い!みんなの顔、身体、姿が変わっていくのを見れるってすごい!

特にプライベート少人数制のクラスを教えています。大きいクラスももちろんとても良いけど、みんな身体が違うことは事実。アーユルヴェーダやヨガでもこれが一番強調されるところ。そして元気なときもあれば身体がだるいときもある。

もちろん人の体に入ってみることはできないけど、自分の今までの経験(良いものつらいもの)や怪我が人の状況をもっと見に染みて理解できるようにしてくれたと思う。その人に合ったヨガを提供できるようにいつも心掛けて!

そして教えることは学ぶこと。これからもみんなにシェアして人生、一瞬一瞬をエンジョイしたいと思う!
